Upgrading computers...?

soooo.... if you have a computer with a physical memory of 512mb, and a virtual memory of 2gb, and the (c:) drive has 47.88gb with 11.71gb available... on a windows xp professional operating system... would i upgrade the operating system or is there a computer or something you can get so i have more space available...my computer crashes and i think its due to alot of things i have on it... should i upgrade or buy a new one... its for a small business...

Upgrading computers...?
With only 512mb of memory, an upgrade to Vista would not be advisable, as it requires at least 1gb.

You could try reinstalling your version of Windows, thus resetting your computer. On most systems, restarting the computer and pressing a button (a message will tell you which one in the start up screen..usually one of the F# keys) will let you enter the BIOS and you should see the option there. Follow the instructions they give you. Your hard drive would be completely erased, but this will almost definitely stop your system crashes.

If this is not an option, then it could be caused by a virus, malware, etc. Run multiple virus scans. If all else fails, then there has to be a hardware problem..either replace essential components or buy a new computer.
Reply:I would try to upgrade before getting a new computer, you should first try to increase the physical memory to at least 1 gb, you should see a definite improvement, and your hard disk space needs increasing, you can add a second hard disk to your computer, those improvements would save you a lot of money, save all the time it would take to transfer all your files and programs to the new computer, and save learning how to operate a new operating system (VISTA), also as you prob know many programs and hardware such as printers are not compatible with vista so that could be more expense replacing all your printers, scanners and the like
Reply:the computer crashes because you are running windows, and windows is full of memory leaks, and security holes.

get ubuntu linux at www.ubuntu.com

its free, so you won't have to pay anything to solve your problem, and its easy to use and is being used in increasingly more business and educational settings around the world
