Current VM Settings?

I am just curious, as I've recently changed my virtual memory setting. Here is the information about my laptop:

* 1.73 GHz

* 512 RAM

* 80 GB (14.1 GB left on C drive, 32.5 GB left on D drive)

Virtual Memory settings:

(C drive: Enabled)

Minimum: 1000 MB

Maximum: 5000 MB

(D drive: Disabled)

I am curious to whether such virtual memory setting will have any disadvantages? Or consequences?

Current VM Settings?
MS suggests your virtual memory settings to be 1.5 x RAM - in your case that would be 768 Meg.

Your settings of 1 gig min and 5 gig max are way overkill and will not give you any benefit. Set it to min 512 Meg and max to 1 gig if you're not comfortable with the suggestion of 768 Meg.

Just remember that if you're paging space isn't large enough, you won't have a performance problem, your applications will start failing. I'm guessing that this didn't happen and you're just trying to increase performance.

If you find that you're paging a lot (system is slow and the hard drive light stays lit when its slow) then adding RAM is the solution. When you add the RAM, don't forget to change the min and max page file size if you've decided to manually maintain it.
