My disk C has a volume of 144 GB %26amp; 128 GB of free space.
My windows task manager says Under Physical Memory (K) , Total 457,136 and available 142,280
Any ideas?
Why did I get a pop up that said I didn't have enough virtual memory?
If a computer running Windows requires more memory/RAM then there is installed in the system to run a program, etc, it uses a small section of the hard drive for this purpose. This is called “Virtual” memory, or “Swap Filling”. If the “Swap” file is to small, then you will get a warning that the system can’t perform the operation that you have requested because sufficient “Virtual” memory isn’t available.
You need to enlarge the size of your “virtual memory/swap file”. So, do the following.
Right click “My Computer” and choose “Properties”.
In the “System Properties” window, click the “Advanced” tab.
Under “Performance”, click “Settings”.
In the “Performance Options” window, click “Advanced”.
Under “Virtual memory”, click “Change”.
Increase the size of the “Paging file” so that it is at least twice the size of your RAM. You can increase the size to “Maximum”, it won’t hurt your system at all.
Best cure.
If you really want to eliminate this problem, all you need do is to install more “Memory/RAM”.
Reply:Try this: Click start, control panel, system, advanced tab, in the performance tab click settings, click the advanced tab, look at the virtual memory section. The number in next to MB should be one and a half times the amount of memory (RAM) in your system. If this number is not accurate, click on change and click on the System Managed Size option, then click ok. The virtual memory is decreased by either having too many programs open or by some programs that do not released the memory they have used back to the operating system.
Reply:You need to increase the size of your windows paging file. (under advanced options/performance of my computer) It also sounds like you might have too many things running. Definitely run a complete spyware/adware scan to eliminate those culprits. But definitely your swapfile is too small if you're getting that message.
Which version of windows are you running?
Reply:How big is the pagefile on your computer? It is quite possible that you need to enlarge it.
Click start-%26gt;right click on my computer -%26gt; properties -%26gt; advanced -%26gt; performance -%26gt; advanced, and check what it says. I would reccomend a pagefile of around 2GB.
You only have 457MB of RAM, so if you have only a small pagefile (pagefile = virtual memory) then I can see that being the problem.
