(press F8 on restart and select safe mode from the menu)
If it does, try doing a system restore (Start\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore).
Did it happen after you install a 3rd party software, uninstall it and see if it helps.

Reply:It's probably a process or program that runs on boot. It happens really often that when you download something or visit certain pages, the sites tag on some ridiculous soft for the ride. I used to get shopping guides and weather bugs. Really annoying.
Alt Ctrl Del to find out which processes are running as soon as its loaded up. If there's something there you don't recognize, Google it. Likely, it doesn't belong there and you can go through the steps to Search it out on your machine and uninstall.
Also, you could more simply check your list of programs in the Start menu to see if there's anything you don't use/need. It might be slowing your machine down.

Can I upgrade to a dual layer processor, and would it help with video editing?
I think you are a little confused. there is nothing lika an double layer procesor. there is a core duo.
in acordance with the description you give about your system, I wonder how long does it take to make a dvd in your computer???
maybe you need a much faster dvd burner. 16x is a good one. what's you hard drive size and speed.?? you need to have enough free space to work with video editing.
try changing the dvd burner or your hd or getting rid of some useless files.

I do not make movies much but I have noticed that DVD does take longer than VCD by a lot. So I do not know if the processors are that much help or not.
Before I increased the RAM to 2G it was a lot slower.
Ask the dealer where you bought the computer.
Reply:You can only up gpgrade your memory (processor) but it is already at 2gig, now i only have a 1 gig memory in mine and i do video edting for living! so u must be running alot of programmes at onec to slow that down!!

Good Day....As I looked at the web....your soundboard specification is Sound card - VIA VT8235 - 5.1 channel surround........So looking through the specs ...I assumed your soundcard is AC97 related sound card.....Hope this will helped you.....
Reply:Did you try to use the Device Manager or the Install Hardware Wizard? Windows has the option to look for a compatible driver in the internet in case you lost the installer CD for the motherboard, sound card, graphics card, etc.
For Device Manager, right click your desktop My Computer icon, click properties, go to Hardware, then press Device Manager, look for a device with a yellow exclamation point or unknown device. Right click the item and choose properties, go to Device tab, and press Update Driver. the wizard will prompt you to look for the driver in your local drive or the internet...
For Install Hardware Wizard, just go to start, control panel, add hardware and follow the wizard prompts...

Good Day....As I looked at the web....your soundboard specification is Sound card - VIA VT8235 - 5.1 channel surround........So looking through the specs ...I assumed your soundcard is AC97 related sound card.....Hope this will helped you.....
Reply:Did you try to use the Device Manager or the Install Hardware Wizard? Windows has the option to look for a compatible driver in the internet in case you lost the installer CD for the motherboard, sound card, graphics card, etc.
For Device Manager, right click your desktop My Computer icon, click properties, go to Hardware, then press Device Manager, look for a device with a yellow exclamation point or unknown device. Right click the item and choose properties, go to Device tab, and press Update Driver. the wizard will prompt you to look for the driver in your local drive or the internet...
For Install Hardware Wizard, just go to start, control panel, add hardware and follow the wizard prompts...

You can install PC3200, PC2700, or PC2100 DDR RAM.
If it were me buying the RAM, I would buy PC3200 that runs at 400MHz and is backwards compatible with the PC2100 266MHz that you have now. Mainly because it is more widely used and more computers can run it.
Don't buy from the site I listed, it is to expensive there, but at least it tells you what your computer has.
Remember you need "unbuffered" "non ECC" RAM.

DVD/CD ROM playback problems?
Hi all,
I'm relatively inexperienced with hardware/internal issues on my computer and have a problem that I can't fix:
I am running Windows XP Home. I keep upto date with patches, etc and my computer runs fine except for when I have a CD or DVD in my drive. when ever I am playing from the disc (or reading it or burning to it) my audio and video becomes garbled, jittery, like it reads a bit, then stops, reads some more, then stops. I just replaced the drive yesterday and the problem still persists. If I am listening to music or watching any video file (ether from my Ipod or a file on the hard drive), and try to read the disc in the player (such as from explorer), this happens. If I try to play an audio or video file from the disc, it happens. THis leads me to think it is not a hardware problem (at last not with the player).
THis morning, I removed any program that would have anything to do with my drive-itunes, real, rhapsody, cd ripping program, etc and the problem still remained when I tried to play an audio CD. Any suggestions?

Best way to get support is call dell. I think the problem is with IDE controller but if you call dell they will walk you through process of pinpointing problem.

im unclear on the ram ... make sure u have 2 gigs and load windows on it fresh and it should be fine .. maybe install a faster harddrive like a wd raptor ..
Reply:Strange that the physical memory reports as 4GB when you only have 512MB.
What the above poster said is good advice. Your hard drive is a decent size, and newer hard drives may not fit in your system as you probably have a IDE connection rather than a SATA.
I would certainly maximize your RAM, and partition your drive. Do it before the reinstall if you want to save lots of data off it.

If you have a low capacity hard drive, consider buying a new hard drive for the reinstall. L8r, after you boot, you can partition the rest of the hard drive under disk management. In disk management, partition +/- 20gb ( 20000mb) per each partition. Format in NTFS. Any additional software, download / install to one of the partitions. AVOID downloading / installing to the partition wth the op. sys. on it, ( usually the "C" drive). Your computer will work better.

I'm not familiar enough with either man to give a real opinion, so I wont take up too much space.
I've seen little of Richards, but what little I have seen, I've liked. My only problem is (and Richards' problem for that matter) that he's just too generic for his own good. Sure, he's got some good moves, but there are better recognized stars out there, like the men you mentioned; Strong, KENTA, and CIMA. Davey's always been the Jannetty of those tag teams, the lesser recognized face, and if any tag team pairing was meant to put him over, it failed in my eyes. I know this sounds kind of superficial, but even for indie smarks, I think this match will go down in the annuls of this year without being remembered 3 months from now simply because it's not tied into a pair of recognizable faces. Sure, Davey's been loyal to ROH, but he's never made that big breakthrough, and therefore he doesn't have much of a loyal following.
Same goes with this Kota character. He's just another face from Japan that ROH flew in for kicks and giggles. Once again, people claim he deserved MotY last year, and once again, I'd deduce he didn't get it because he's not a recognizable face, even within the indie smark circles.
I just sense, even with the appreciation of "good wrestling" in ROH, that this match will go down as an undercard footnote due to people's ambiguous feelings towards either man. It's also left to question how well they'll work with one another.

Icon problem !?
hi there
i have just added a dvd rom to my p.c and its installed fine however its name has appeared as a "virtual cd/dvd drive"
this has happened after i tried a full version of "virtual cd" which lets you run your cd based programs and games without having to insert your program cd/dvd,s
is there a way to change(or rename) the icon in question,remembering its in "my computer" and you cannot simply rename or browse for a new icon
system restore is out the question as the virtual cd program was installed over 2 weeks ago,i dont want to restore that far back for obvious reasons
any more ideas ?

i have just added a dvd rom to my p.c and its installed fine however its name has appeared as a "virtual cd/dvd drive"
this has happened after i tried a full version of "virtual cd" which lets you run your cd based programs and games without having to insert your program cd/dvd,s
is there a way to change(or rename) the icon in question,remembering its in "my computer" and you cannot simply rename or browse for a new icon
system restore is out the question as the virtual cd program was installed over 2 weeks ago,i dont want to restore that far back for obvious reasons

I cannot get registry edit to open...I have a bunch of viruses but it keeps shutting my scans down on XEsoft?
So I get a list of threats but when its almost done with the scan it has about 133 problems but it causes an error and shuts down...so I tried to edit the registry without letting the program close...because I could still see the file paths for the infected file...but when I go to run and type regedit...it says C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization......so I click ignore and this pops up.....The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:0538 IP:fe ff 1d 09 e9....when I hit ignore again it closes....I saw about 55 Zlobs on the computer when I scanned....any suggestions???

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem pop-up.?
Help! I had Windows XP. And this has never happen to me before. Only after I've completely uninstalled Symantec's Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 8.01 since I've found a much better antivirus programme untill some pop-up error stating about some Virtual Driver Device and some 16 bit MS-DOS subsystem thingy.
The warning has been popping up on the computer screen for every five minutes, and it really annoys me. Can somebody help? I am never gonna install any of symantec's stuff anymore.
The warning goes like this:

Insert Windows CD into the CD drive
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following commands,

expand D:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32 autoexec.nt

Please Help! Dell A940 Issues?
Today I tried re-installing Dell A940 AIO center with disk but when it comes to installing the Scanner Section an error comes up that says:

Is there a way to fix this problem? Everything else works, the printing, copying, and faxing. All but the scanning. And the main reason why I tried re-installing this printer, is so that I can scan my vacation pictures onto my computer.

The you will have to install an antivirus. I suggest AVG Free edition. It is so much better than Norton.

Try disabling your anti-virus (security suite) before you try to install it and see what happens.
Make sure you uninstall it completely before you start again. After uninstall it do a fresh restart, then disable your anti-virus (security suite) then try a reinstall.

Indexing will make the problem worse because the computer will seem like it is constantly accessing the drive to index your files. This is only helpful if you are looking for files all the time. Better to store files where you know they are.
Best is to delete (make sure you empty your wastebasket) old files that you do not need.
Then add memory to your system.

Reply:Actually moving your pagefile (also known as virtual memory) to a separate Hard drive improves performance! This is what I did because I have 2 hard drives.
Make sure to create the pagefile on the front outside edge of the harddrive for fastest access times by creating a partition there.
Once you do that you can completely remove the virtual memory off of your operating system drive. This will also help your hard drives last longer.

Burning movies on to dvd?
Can any one help with a problem I am having, the problem I am having is that I can burn data on a cd or a dvd but not movies. The software I use is NTI CD %26amp; DVD-Maker or InterVideo DVDCopy5. I have tried others, Winavi Video Converter, any-video-converter-free, apex-video-converter-free and CDBurnerXP.

I wish i knew how to do that I tried many different ways usually downloading programs, but to no avail.
Reply:Burning copyright movies are illegal, however if you want to copy home cam movies then try programs like "nero recode" and "ConvertXtoDVD".
Oh, and remember you cannot copy DVD to DVD the way you do with CD's. You have to encode them to your harddrive before you are able to burn it.

Why is there 2 fragments on mft?
I have set my virtual memory settings to no paging file and then deleted "c:\pagefile.sys" on reboot. I then defragged and which should have got rid of the fragmentations, but it didn't, and then I set my settings back to system managed page file. This should have rewrote the "c:\pagefile.sys". How can I get rid of these frags? they are just menacing to me. I am not having any probs with the system.

What do i need to run simple java programme?
You need the jdk.
Java development kit. IF you have written the program yourself that is. Because the program has to be compiled first, and that can only be done with javac compiler in the JDK.
It is available for free at Sun Website, also, you can run it with help of IDE like Netbeans, although many people say that using simple compilers is more important to learning Java as compared to using IDEs.
The current version is JDK 6

Runtime errors on messenger 9.0 beta?

Active Directory. How can I get the user id?
Everybody in my office signs on to their computers using an active directory name and password.
Yet on my virtual server (with account on active directory) my .net c# application fails.
I have tried everything. I can't even get their user id using the many different combinations of identity, servervariables etc from LDAP.
Setting windows authentication fails, setting anonymous won't give me their user id with any type of request.
I have tried all of the logical methods and settings in the web.config, impersonate=true, impersonate=false. When I use anonymous login, I can't get any information about them. If I use windows integrated login it fails or a login dialog box pops up requesting username and password.
This is all on an intranet site.
Ironically, my coworker who uses Coldfusion, has no problem getting information from LDAP and detecting userid.

I am trying to mount iso images on an external hard drive?
I have a program that uses 10 separate dvd's depending on what info you need at the time. I want to take my external hard drive and mount all 10 dvd iso's on it so I won't have to switch disks. I tried Alcohol 120% . When I create the virtual drives, it always puts them on my main "c" drive, not on the external drive. I have tried Winmount,Poweriso %26amp; Alcohol. Should I partition the external into 10 parts? Then how could I mount the images?

Try these 2 things, Sanjay:
1) Download Mozilla Firefox from www.firefox.com. This is a much better internet program than Internet Explorer, and will save you a lot of trouble.
2) If that doesn't help, buy more computer RAM to increase some of your memory. Take your computer to a store if you don't know which one to buy or how to install it.

Reply:hi try downloading the rial version of anti-sptware... and run a complete scan.... if the problem persists then try system restore to a earlier date.....the day you did not have the problem.. this is possible for XP only.... to do system restore
START%26gt;all programs%26gt;accesosries%26gt;system tools%26gt; system restore and select restore toa earlier date and look for the day which is highlighted in bold....choose a date which u think the problem was not there....
by doing this u will not loose any data but will have to loose any updates done in the software.........

After running the virus scan delete all temprory internet files including off line content and also unwanted files and temp. files. Finally, carryout a defragmentation . Your system will be back to the normal...!
