Unziping problems?
you probably own an "older" pc and got a FAT harddisk instead of a NTFS.

It is possible to change it to NTFS, this is explained on this site:

good luck :D

C. It would be best to use a convex mirror.

D. It would be best to use a concave mirror, with the object to be ignited positioned at the center of curvature of the mirror.

E. One cannot start a fire using a mirror, since mirrors only form virtual images.

Which one would it be? :) Thanks to anyone who can help!

Suppose you wanted to start a fire using sunlight and a mirror....? (Lens/mirror question?)?
A

you can focus all the light energy to a single point
Reply:your answer is (a) . because a concave mirror will focus the sun light coming from sun at its focus that is half the radius of curvature.

Don't sweat the meta tags too much. Make sure your keyword is in your URL, that it's in the title tag of your site, and then it should be in the headlines h1, h2, h3 tags.

Then you can worry about the meta tags.

Also, you'll want to understand "anchor text". This is the stuff you'll use in your off page optimization tactics. 1 way links should all be your keyword and point to the page on your site optimized for that keyword.

If you want to see faster results you can look up Web 2.0. Social media/bookmarking sites get over 5x the traffic of Google so you'll get indexed much faster.
Reply:Meta keywords are so old school. Google indexes based on the page content and how many other sites link to your page.

When I download a 689 KB pdf file, it takes 7min 35sec. How can I speed up my system?

I have a 2 yr old Compaq Presario with a 40 GB hard drive, showing 18.6 GB free space C Drive, 918 MB D Drive, 45.7 MB Free space on Physical Memory and 1.96 Free on Virtual Memory I am running a XP Home SP2 operating system.

When I download a 689 KB pdf file, it takes 7min 35sec. How can I speed up my system?
Downloading anything has hardly anything to do with your computer. You basically need a better internet connection or the server that you were downloading from isn't very good.
Reply:Your question pertains to your ISP. If you have "Dial-Up" service, then it will be PAINFULLY slow downloading. To improve download speeds you should see if you can get a broadband cable connection in your area. The next fastest download broadband connection would be an ADSL provider, like AOL, ATT Yahoo, Earthlink, and others. The last broadband option, and the least reliable, most expensive, is Satellite broadband from Hughs. Some things that you can do to your computer to speed it up, delete the temporary internet files, delete any programs that you do not use, download,update and run AVG Free, Spy-bot Search %26amp; Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender. Make sure that your WinXP is updated. Make sure that your Adobe Reader is the latest version. Then do a "Defrag".

Which is the best OS for playing games-Win98SE or Win XP?

I have a computer with the following configuration - P III, 733 MHz processor, Samsung hard disk 20 GB with three partitions C, D %26amp; E with 6, 7 %26amp; 7 GB respectively, Samsung floppy disk %26amp; CD ROM (52X), Internal 56 KBPS modem, Windows XP on C: drive. My problems are:

1) My Windows has gone extremely slow. It takes five minutes to boot and another five to shut down. I have defragmented all drives but the problem still remains. Also, I do not see the option of scandisk in the system tools. Please advice.

2) In the system tray, it often comes-"Your Windows is too low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the paging size. During this process, many programs may not function." What is the reason behind this?

3) Which is the best OS for playing games-Win98SE or Win XP.

Which is the best OS for playing games-Win98SE or Win XP?
From the description of your problem it appears you have installed an older version of a program (could be a game) on your computer, which has caused memory leak. This is a classical case of memory leak, which makes the PC very slow while running and often returning the message related to low virtual memory. Now in order to solve this problem, first of all remove this program from your system either through uninstall or through Add remove program in control panel. Do not delete this program manually as it would leave its system entry in the system. Once you have removed this program, restart the system and you will find the change. Also if you are running an older version of an anti-virus program, then either remove it or upgrade it with a new one. I am sure this will solve your problem. Regarding scan disk you can use the error-checking tool to check for file system errors and bad sectors on the hard disk.

1. Open My Computer, and then select the local disk you want to check.

2. On the File menu, click Properties.

3. On the Tools tab, under Error-checking, click Check Now.

4. Under Check disk options, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.

Your problem is related to low virtual memory message, has been addressed in the solutions mentioned above. You can try to manage the virtual memory size yourself by increasing it to higher value e.g. 600 MB etc. Lastly you can also increase the RAM size to 256 MB or higher for better performance. Regarding your query for playing games, Windows XP is a better operating system.
Reply:In your case, go back to SE. You don't begin to have enough horse power to run XPh. SE IS far better for games than XPh. It is much faster, uses less resources, handles open GL better as well as Direct X. Once Microhell gets the bugs out of Longhorn, now to be Vista, XP home is going the way of ME. AND even then there will be those that will stay with SE.
Reply:for your computer windows 98SE
Reply:winxp
Reply:Your partitions are making the drive space too small which is proably causing bad fragmentation problems. YOu also forgot to mention how little memory you have which is another reason.

Your computer, regardless of memory, is the minimum processor that can effectively run XP (without games) and will not play "modern" games such as HL2, FEAR etc. XP is generally better, but for this configuration 98 may be the only choice.
Reply:Win XP %26amp; sounds like u need more RAM ...
Reply:4 urs 98SE is better coz with XP u can expect a lot of hogin
Reply:1) check that you aren't loading lots of programs through the start up folder, do a good virus/spyware sweep to check nothing naughty is being called to run through the registry

2) you have it set to dynamically allocate virtual RAM. Right click 'my computer', choose 'properties' 'advanced' tab, click the settings button under 'performance', then the 'advanced' tab. At the bottom of that box is the button to access change RAM settings---click it. Select C drive and use the 'custom settings' to set both minimumand maximum values to equal the amount of physical RAM + 1 Mb that you have installed. Follow the same procedure to set a paging file equal to the amount of RAM you have on each of the other drives. This will give you loads of virtual memory, more than the recommended in fact, so if you experirnce problems just reduce the settings on all drives EXCEPT C. By setting min and max values to the same, windows doesnt waste time changing settings as its running.

3) For compatability with older games, Win98 is better---but if you want to play the newer games your PC really needs upgrading, not just the operating system as your hard drive is small; and a lot of gaming performance depends on your graphics capability, but as you didnt include that in your specs we cant advise
Reply:WINXP...IS THE BEST FOR EVERYTHING

If u have any other doubts write to me
Reply:Windows 98se

XP requires several specifications for games and pulls at least 1.0 GHZ when playing a game. I recommened that you buy more memory and update your 56k to broadband
Reply:windows xp of course
Reply:I would recommend Windows XP coz there are a lot of performance boosting features in it.

Computer memory help?

Ok, I have a DELL Inspiron 600m laptop and recently I have been getting messages that say "Windows Low on Virtual Memory".

Then today I was trying to type something up in Microsoft Word, and a message came on the screen that said " Microsoft Visual C++ Library" as it' title and then it said "Runtime Error! Program : C: \Program Files\Microsoft Office\ Office 11\ WINWORD.EXE , abnormal program termination.

I deleted some programs and things, but that still didn't work. Does anyone else have this problem or know what is wrong? What should I do?

Computer memory help?
Try switching off some of the icons on the lower right of the screen! You may be running too many programs at once! If not, check your RAM count in MY computer! What is happening is your computer is trying to use memory from your hard drive! You may have a small hard drive, so utilize it well! If you have less than 512MB of RAM, try to get it to that number at least. Try to think about the programs that you really don't need, and uninstall them! Music videos, music, movies, pictures etc, think about those too! You more than likely can be suffering Internet clutter with temporary files, so go into the control panel, switch to category view and go into performance and maintenance . Clean your hard drive up! The number one reason why most computers slow down and start acting funny, is the lack of maintenance. Take care of your computer, so you can enjoy it for some time to come!
Reply:Increase the size of your pagefile. Here's how: Right-click on "My Computer" and click "Properties". Click the "Advanced" tab, and under "Performance" click the "Settings" button. Under the "Advanced" tab, under "Virtual Memory" click "Change". Here you can change the size of your pagefile. Choose a custom size and make it larger than your current settings. I'm not sure if it matters, but try to make the numbers a power of two. For example, 256, 512, 1024, 2048. This should eliminate any error messages about virtual memory.
Reply:Sounds like your machine is coming to the end of its career.

Your Hard drive may be failing. (common file access errors.)

Your Ram ma be failing (normally that results in a BSOF.)

Hard drive space is at a premium and the system has no room to write the swap file.

Desk errors are part of hard drive failure. (back up your personal files and reinstall to a new hard drive)

Regardless back up your personal files
Reply:you have to much software running at one time is the problem you need to buy more ram put more in the pc then you can run a lot of software at the same time
Reply:wat u need to do is buy more RAM which makes ur computer faster and able to run more programs at once.,.. when RAM(basically called virtual memory) gets low ur comp starts to go slow and cant run many programs at once so if u get more RAM and maybe some more hard drive space you should be fine.. hope this helped ya
Reply:You must upgrade your computer memory module

I believe you should get at least 1GB and that way you will definitely wont get that message

Why does my computer run slower?

My computer takes a long time to log on to Windows. But after logged on, it runs at normal speed.

80 GB SATA Disk in to 5 partitions.

Boot drive is C: (Capacity = 14.7 GB, 5.11 GB free)

Windows is installed on C:\Windows

CPU - Intel Celeron 2.54 GHz

RAM - 240 MB

Video Memory - 16 MB Allocated from the RAM

OS - Windows XP SP2

Virtual Memory - 768 MB to 1024 MB

Virus Scanner - Trend Micro Internet Security 2007

While logging on, Windows Task Manager shows that the CPU usage is full.

Why does my computer run slower?
-try some of the tips given below

http://mypchelp.blogspot.com/2006/10/pc-...

-downlod, install and run a free program called advanced windows care V2personal free edition

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/WindowsCare...
Reply:virus/spyware/malware.. check ur pc up often. and clean ur trash often as well.
Reply:Firstly, check which process is consuming most CPU, by clicking on CPU header in task manager.

Comments / Recommendations

1) 240 MB is small memory for windows XP machine. I wonder how it is working. Upgrade to atleast 512 MB (recommendation 1G)

2) Having antivirus slows down machine a bit

3) Virtual memory - you have more than twice ur physical memory as virtual memory. Having bigger virtual memory does not improve performance, it degrades it, as OS would spend more time shuffling data from physical to virtual memory, which is nothing but a huge file in C:\.
Reply:If your computer have to load a big register (registery) at logging in, it may run slow. If you often adds and removes softwares, the registery gets bigger. If you want to clean, use some free softwares.

There are also some other causes. But your problem should be solved by this.
Reply:got too many start up programs? maybe increase the memory?
Reply:From that list, it looks like you installed XP on a system that was barely able to handle it. The two things I'd suggest upgrading the most are the hard-drive (you can't even buy an iPod with less than twice the capacity, and it would physically fit inside your existing drive) and the RAM (240MB? Get at least a matched pair of half-gig sticks, if not 1GB sticks). Right now, what's probably happening is XP is running out of RAM during the boot-up process, and is resorting to using Virtual RAM (which is essentially writing files from one location on the hard-drive to another location on the hard-drive, and is a lot slower than just sucking them up into RAM chips). And you're currently using 20% of your available hard-drive capacity just to make up for the tiny amount of actual RAM that your computer has available (I wouldn't feel too bad, as the desktop that I just replaced last year had the same 15GB hard-drive, but only 64MB of RAM, and probably more of the total capacity filled up...but I knew better than to try to shoe-horn XP into that system).
Reply:dude, you ram and video ram , are way down for todays ( XP ) standards, up ram to 500+ to 1gb, and get a video board with ram 32 to 64mb, and on that note ♪, get some fans for cooling video cpu and case,

since windows and firewall and virus scanners using alot your ram,

disable any other un-necessary programs at startup,

clean up drive, empty temp folders, empty browser cache and cookies, empty downloaded installer folder,

run scandisk error checker , then run defragmenter and analyze first, if fragmented (red) , then defragment,

if needed, repair and scan in safe mode (f8)

..
Reply:First of all there's lots of good answers here! I had the exact same problem myself, so I got more RAM and I got another hard drive which I use as a back up! A slave I think it's called! So all the movies and games that I download I put them on my new drive. I have to say that it all works a treat for me %26amp; It didn't cost that much either! Now my pc works like a new pc %26amp; it's very fast %26amp; Im very happy with it. Im just throwing some ideas at you! Also do check your pc at all times for virus! AVG is great %26amp; at the moment it's free! I hope this gives you some help, good luck!
Reply:It could be a couple of things. It is most likely some stuff it is loading when it starts up your profile. You can alter what starts up and runs in the background by going to start%26gt;run and typing in MSConfig then hitting your enter key. You will see a bunch of tabs on the window that opens. The one you want is called something like startup. There are several things in there with checks in the boxes. Uncheck the programs you do not want to start up automatically. (AOL is a BIG resource hog!!).

You can also remove any virus and adware. See the links below.

Then I would recommend you run defrag just in case.

Good luck, HTH
Reply:You don't have a lot of hard drive space left, and you have a small amount of memory for the operating system to use, thus its using virtual memor; or space from your hard drive. You also have a slower processor for what the computer is doing. I would recommend upgrading your ram, and also see if I could eliminate some files and create more space. Defrag your disk also.
Reply:You have a lot of programs on your start up. Or virus. Check for virus first and do the following latter. Press start=%26gt;run then type in msconfig=%26gt; prees OK. Go to sartup and clear the programs you dont really need on startup. You might be Fine
Reply:This is very simple I asked the same question once. Your computer has low ram 240mb i recommend upgrading to 512mb or 756mb to speed things up. Because amateurs believe ram is nothing it means a lot in the computer. Its what smoothens your power. Doesnt mater if you have 3.6 ghz like me if you dont have the high ram your screwed over. Ram is quite cheap around $99 for a pair (which you need) of 256mb ram

Classic rock song (possibly british)?

I hear this song when I am working almost everyday. It sounds like a classic rock song, maybe sung by a british person (man), and it is like a slow-tempo song.

One lyric I remember is something like "Hey blue bird", or "Hey blue girl", or "Hey you there"

If anyone has a piano, or visits a virtual piano site, I have the notes for the rhythm.

It goes like this.

A F A F A Bb A G

C D C B Bb A

Classic rock song (possibly british)?
Here's a site on which you can use your keyboard to identify your song.

If you hear the song while you're working almost every day, are you listening to the radio, or some piped-in-company-soundtrack? If you're hearing it on a radio station, could you either call or visit the website and inquire with them as to the title of the song? Lots of stations offer an online tune-genie to find songs with.

Hope this helps!

Hard disk space?

Hi, all the folders ("Documents %26amp; Setting", "Windows" and "Program Files" %26amp; hidden files in my C drive partition only use 7 GB space, why my 19GB C drive shows only 4 GB left? (I turned off System restore, clean up temp files, no files in Recycle Bin, virtual memory use 2GB) Where are the other space go?

Hard disk space?
Dominic P has a valid point. Depending upon the volume of files you have added, then deleted over the time you have owned your PC, you could just have 'dead space' on your hard drive. Try this.......

Sounds as though you need to do some basic maintenance on your PC. This should help you out. there are multiple processes, so read it all before attempting. This should free up some space for you. I it helps and GOOD LUCK!!!!

Click on START

Click on MY COMPUTER

RIGHT Click on LOCAL DRIVE or 'C' DRIVE

Click on PROPERTIES

Click on DISK CLEANUP

Choose what you want to delete or keep

If you don't understand, click on the line and a description of what is involved.

Back to the window....

Click on TOOLS

Click on CHECK NOW under ERROR-CHECKING

Another window will open

check the 2 boxes (automatically fix, recover bad sectors)

You should get a message that basically the program will start the next time you reboot or start your computer. Depending upon the size of your hard drive, the speed of your hard drive and the errors encountered, it can take some time to complete. On a PC with severe problems and a huge hard drive, it took about 3 hours. There are 5 phases to this check and your PC will go through each one automatically. Once it finishes, it will go back into the sequence of booting up your PC. If you allow it to run while you do something else around the office/home, once you see the LOGIN screen, this part is complete.

The next step is to complete what is called defrag....or defragmenting your hard drive. As you add and remove data from your PC, when you remove data, it leaves holes or open space where the data was placed on the drive. Ok, as you add data, you create a bigger and bigger block of cheddar cheese. As you remove data, holes are left, like in a block of Swiss cheese. Defrag will take that Swiss cheese and turn it back to a solid block of Cheddar. Your PC performance will be faster, and this recovers the space lost in 'holes' of the Swiss cheese. (Ok, get rid of the 'deer in the headlights look'

Click on START

Click on MY COMPUTER

RIGHTclick on LOCAL DRIVE or 'C' Drive

Click on PROPERTIES

Click on TOOLS

Click on DEFRAGMENT NOW under DEFRAGMENTATION

Click on ANALYZE

This will check your drive (if you have multiple hard drives in your PC, you can check them all from this window)

Once the check is complete, your PC will tell you if you need to Defrag at this time.

If it recommends defragging, click on DEFRAGMENT, and your PC will do the rest. This can take some time as well, depending upon the severity of the fragmenting, size of the hard drive, and speed of the hard drive. Just find something else to do and check on it periodically. Your PC will let you know when it finishes the task.

You can also purchase a program package that will do it all for you. I think McAfee and Norton (and possible some others) make a software bundle that encompasses these tasks, and you can schedule these tasks to take place at regular intervals. The software bundle will also include anti-virus protection, and other features that will optimize your PC's performance and protect it at the same time. Check your local stores that sell software and PCs (Office Depot, Best Buy, Comp USA, HH Greggs, etc) they will run sales on the software with rebates that will take the cost down to little, and even FREE.
Reply:Your operating system
Reply:well the space shown isn't just the c drive. the c drive has other drives on it and certain bugs may be on their. try a setting called defrag. look it up in search. it takes a while but combs the computer finding dead unused files that would not show on display and delete them. good luck and if it continues seek help from your pc provider.

I need help with reformatting my PC?

I have Windows Media Center 2005. I have backed up all of my valuable data. I am ready to reboot, I have a Boot Disk that was sent with my computer and a Drivers CD. Only thing is, when I get to reformatting, it shows me partitions. Are Partitions safe to delete? Dell had made a virtual drive for back up on my computer, it was for Norton Ghost backup files, but I wont be using it anymore. So I recognized and deleted that partition. This is what is left....

-:Partition1%26lt;FAT%26gt; 55MB %26lt;46MB%26gt; Free

C: Partition2 %26lt;Local Hard Drive%26gt; [NTFS} 109639 %26lt;44774 MB Free%26gt;

Unpartitioned Space 42892

What is safe to delete in those partitions?

Is it possible to combine all partitions into one hard drive?

After all that, do I just select C: and reformat it?

I need help with reformatting my PC?
You should read the support section on Dell's website. This is a must!

Don't delete partitions that Dell has created, until you know for sure its ok.

Try running them both under separate application pools in IIS.

File: 6.3 MB (40 pages, 64 graphics) but I've used it many times in the past just fine. It only happens sometimes but dozens of people depend on me to send this document monthly and I cant be late sending it.

OO Version: 2.3 (I deleted 2.1 and 2.2 installation files, but it has opened and worked fine since I did that, so if this might contribute to the issue plz inform me)

Does StarOffice have these same issues? I've never experienced such a thing in Microsoft.

System: MSft windows XP professional 2002 5.1 HP physical memory 512MB virtual: 2 GB (Wouldnt this mean my total computer memory capacity is 2.5 GB? If so, why does it say 504MB of RAM?

C Drive: 61.8GB capacity (13.7GB free space..is this by the way a good number? cpu is slow. Will 2*1GB help?

THANX!

Why does my open office writer keep freezing!!!!!!???
Do you have jdk/jre 1.4.1_01 or newer installed on your system?

According to the Openoffice.org that is the oldest version that can be installed for Openoffice to function properly.

I just had some Java/Yahoo problems...?

I've been having little messenger freezes every 30 minutes or so Since I got the "new" "updated" version of yahoo messenger. Ok, well today, I was trying to play pool with one of my friends with the in-Yahoo-Messenger games and Java gave me 3 errors telling me that running multiple java virtual machines at the same time may crash my system. Ok, kool.... so I signed out and closed messenger, then I signed back in and i tried to minimize my yahoo messenger. I got the following message in a "C++ Runtime Error" box:

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messegner\

YahooMessenger.exe

R6025

- pure vritual function call

every time i tried to minimize or close a messenger box i'd get that and it'd close my messenger. like the process and all.

BTW i'm on Windows Vista Home Basic with Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.419 installed. I had no problems with 8.1.0.416.... are you having the same problem?

I just had some Java/Yahoo problems...?
make sure you have the latest sun java and flash, they are necessary for the latest messy

uninstall from add and remove programmes, and re dpwnload the latest messy yahoo has updated 3 times in the last month

Where can I get a QWERTY drumkit?

I've got a program on my computer called 'virtual MIDI keyboard' or something, and as you press buttons on my (qwerty) keyboard, the corresponding notes on the (piano) keyboard are played. So Q=C, W=D, E=E, R=F, T=G, Y=A, U=B and I=C.

Anyways I was looking for a similar program but with a drumkit instead, so I could hit away at my (qwerty) keyboard and get a good drum beat going.

Thanks!

Where can I get a QWERTY drumkit?
You can try these...

The best would be to get a free VST host, and then load some free drum VSTis, but probably you just want something simple.

My web browser is not able to access the site.?

Hi,

Iam using dot net 2.0 framework.

I created one website on the local system named 'website1'. And also created virtual directory for this site.

But once i started accessing it in the browser i got the following error:

http://localhost/website1/

So, let me know the solution for this problem.

Thankyou

My web browser is not able to access the site.?
Linux is the solution. Linux, php, mysql. That's the easy way to go and the best way. You're still in the beginning, you can save yourself a lot of headaches.

If you choose the windows non-standart way, it's in god's hand my friend.

Sorry I can't give you an exact answer to the problem, I dunno. So I'm just giving you an advice that could save you from future headaches. It's way easier to create websites in linux, and cheaper too. You can still do it from your windows computer.

Good luck!

Who would be richer?

The person who:

a) finds cure for cancer

b) invents a teleport machine (available only to the super rich)

c) finds a way to use water instead of gasoline for fuel without harming the environment

d) person who invents the virtual reality sex machine that enables you to have virtual sex with anyone with a program (every touch is so realistic you cannot tell the difference between real and program).

e) person who invents the pill for instant cure to hang-overs.

f) person to reach level 100 on Y/A!

Who would be richer?
I'm going with "D" for $400 Alex!!!

I would also like to know why your S/N is "trojan"!

When I hear trojan, I think condoms!!!
Reply:C.... Since most people have cars that pollute the environment, and GAS IS SO EXPENSIVE.. A LOT more people would benefit from it.
Reply:D. Virtual reality machine---sex sells for big bucks.
Reply:The rest looks good but A. is wrong kid..Because not all cancers are the same and depending on a persons DNA and blood type most people don't have to worry about most cancers..( Just should screen once in awhile later in life for Good Health Matters ) Or unless problems develop if you know something is wrong don't put it off for a year or two that's where some people get T$^@ in Ringer...
Reply:Put a trojan on your head and a tin cup in front of you on the street corner and you will probably get rich.
Reply:d)

Sex sells.
Reply:The answer does not depend on the invention or the technology, but on what the person decides to do with it. A lot of people have made brilliant inventions and ended up in poverty. Others have invented nothing and ended up bazillionaires.

If the question is "Which invention has the potential to be exploited for the greatest profit", the teleport machine wins as it replaces the automobile industry, the gas industry, the road-building industry etc.
Reply:c because it affects the whole world
Reply:i would go with A as the whole world will benefit from it and a large no. of people will buy it
Reply:i think the person who finds cure for cancer
Reply:d) person who invents the virtual reality sex machine that enables you to have virtual sex with anyone with a program (every touch is so realistic you cannot tell the difference between real and program).

Laptop Questions?

I have a new HP 17" laptop. I also have installed XP Pro and Vista Business on it. Vista's on the C drive, XP's on the D drive. Vista uses the whole 1440x900 pixel display but XP only uses a squashed 1024x768 display. Any ideas? It also doesn't recognize the wireless card...do you think updating drivers would work? Also, I just downloaded Virtual PC. Is it possible to have it load the operating system information from the separate partition or does it have to be installed inside the virtual hard drive?

Thanks!

Laptop Questions?
Update all the drivers and it should work properly. I can't answer your Virtual PC question because I've never used a virtualization program.
Reply:Updating the drivers off the hp web site should do the trick, just make sure you use the right operating system, since your using two different ones. If your right click on the desktop and click properties, you'll be able to adjust the size.

Spherical mirrror 2?

You wish to create an image that is 10 meters from an object. This image is to be inverted and half the height of the object. You wish to accomplish this using one spherical mirror.

Part A

What is the focal length of the mirror that would accomplish this?

Express your answer in meters, as a fraction or to three significant figures.

Part B

Is this a concave or convex mirror?

1.concave

2.convex

Part C

What is the magnitude r of the radius of curvature of this mirror? Express your answer in meters, as a fraction or to three significant figures.

Part D

What type of image is created, real or virtual?

a) real

b)virtual

Spherical mirrror 2?
Part A

As the image is inverted,the image is real and the spherical mirror must be concave.

The magnification 'm' is -0.5 = - v /u

v / u = 0.5 or v = u / 2

thus v and u have same sign, it means

Let object distance 'u' from mirror be 'x' meter

As image distance from the object is 10 meter

then image distance 'v' from the mirror is (10 + x)

But v= u / 2

therefore (10+x ) = (x/2)

x= - 20 m

Object is at 20 m from mirror and image is 10 m from mirror

The mirror formula 1/ f = 1/v + 1/u gives

1/f =1/(-10) + 1 / (-20)

1/f= -3 /20

Focal length of concave mirror is -20 /3 meter = -6.667 meter

______________________________________...

Part B

Only concave mirrors form real inverted image smaller than the object.l

As the image is inverted,the image is real, It is a concave mirror

______________________________________...

Part C

The radius of curvature is twice the focal length.

The radius of curvature is 40 /3=13.333 meter

______________________________________...

Part D

The image is inverted,( only concave mirrors form real inverted image smaller than the object) therefore the image is real
Reply:Ok, let's remember :

1 / p + 1 / q = 1 / f

p = object distance

q = image distance

If the image is 10 meters from the object, then : p - q = 10

" I am considering that the image is in the same side as the object"

also, the image is inverted, and it's half the height of the object, so then :

-q / p = - 1/2

It's minus 1/2, because it's inverted, and half height of the object :

q = p /2

p - q = 10

then : p = 20 and q = 10

Then :

1 / 20 + 1 / 10 = 1 / f

20 / 3 = f

f = 6.223 cm %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Focal lenght

The mirror, is a concave mirror

The image is real

Hope that helps

ok i have up my virtual memory and have enough gigs for 6 world of warcrafts games, not the problem. when i log in it checks the blizzard download (loads pretty fast now that I did the changes with the virtual mem). anyway when that gets done it goes to the blizzard updater and spends forever doing whatever it gots to do, don't mind that cuz I want to play. when it gets done it does nothing, but if I launch the WoW icon it has play WoW enabled and I click it but it repeats the steps, checking the blizzard download, then blizzard updater, over and over and over, repeating a million times after ( you get the clue). anyone know what is going on???? I got the trial, is that the problem??? oh and I just finished it again and it said " The file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\World of Warcraft\World of Warcraft.lnk.Temporary" could not be created.

I am working on a lab assignment for virtual memory and need to implement various page replacement algorithms (FIFO, LRU, Random). I am not looking to cheat or copy code from sources online, but really just need to get an understanding of how this can be done in a UNIX system with C++.

The professor hasn't been much help as the description of the assignment is only half of a page and useless. Basically, I just need to understand what processes should be called in the code to get a start on this thing. So really any information about virtual memory managment coding for operating systems will be a help. I am having difficulty finding any assistance on Google. Thanks!

When a PC doesnt have enough RAM to load an appliction program into its memory, the:?

A) CPU uese 16-bit registers instead of its more efficient 32-bit registers to complete the process.

B) CPU uses chunks of ROM as if they were RAM.

C) computer swaps out nonessential parts of RAM to the hard disk, known as virtual memory.

D) application program cannot be run on that computer

When a PC doesnt have enough RAM to load an appliction program into its memory, the:?
C

Of course, there is a performance penalty.
Reply:C
Reply:C or D
Reply:D.
Reply:virtual memory is a system technique which gives an application program the impression that it has contiguous working memory, while in fact it is physically fragmented and may even overflow on to disk storage The definition of "virtual memory" is based on tricking programs into thinking they are using large blocks of contiguous addresses.

The answer is C

Quick Physics Question? Please Help!?

A diverging lens has a focal length of 20.0 cm. Locate the images for object distances of (a) 40.0 cm, (b) 20.0 cm, and (c) 10.0 cm. For each case, state whether the image is real or virtual and upright or inverted, and find the magnification.

I did this using the converging lens. What is the difference when using a diverging lens?

Quick Physics Question? Please Help!?
the image formed by a converging lens is real therefore the formula becomes 1/f=1/p+1/q, however if it is a diverging lens the image ain't real and thus the image distance is virtual also the formula becomes.... -1/f=1/p-1/q

Check if it is not muted, if not re install the sound driver.
Reply:You probably don't have the codecs to play the sound.

You must understand that the sound card, is the hard ware, and for the mp3 file to go from you system, to your hardware, it must be able to read and interpret the information, hence you need a codec.

Go to this website, copy and paste please.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/down...

This is to download a basic codec called AC97, rest assure, this is from a recogized web page, and is legal. Choose the one that your system runs on, in this case, XP. I suggest you choose the .exe for convenience sake.

After you install, get this other codec pack, to help run majority of the media files.

http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/KL...

Download this, and you should be able to watch most of your video files, with sound as well. This is, as the previous, legal.

You can see the description on the page itself.

If you still have doubts, go check out wikipedia, they should sort you out =)

Unable to delete Ubuntu ISO, any advice?

However it wont let me delete the ISO I used to install the OS- "the file is open in another program." Any idea where it could be open? I have unmounted all virtual drives, restarted the computer. I'm out of ideas....Thanks!

Unable to delete Ubuntu ISO, any advice?
Is the file still in the folder where you keep your torrents? If your torrent client starts automatically, it may be that your torrent software is seeding the file, even after a reboot. Close the torrent client, and it should free up. Either that, or reboot into safe mode, then delete the file. That might work too.

Ok, what do i need to do to really speed it up for GW?

Computer running slow?!?
How do you want to clean or speed up your computer?

Well, if you want to shell out some money to make it run faster you would probably need to upgrade your comp by getting some more RAM, maybe a new video card, or a external hard drive.

A Recommended External Hard Drive would be a Western Digital My Book. All you need is to plug it into your wall and the plug the USB into your Computer.

Stuff might need to be moved to another drive or deleted

--------------------------------------...

But to make it run faster for free:

Do a disk defragment this compresses your files and data, to access it click Start%26gt;All Programs%26gt;Accessories%26gt;System Tools%26gt;Disk Defragmenter

--------------------------------------...

Also Do A Disk Clean Up

This cleans out old temporary files

To Access it Start%26gt;All Programs%26gt;Accessories%26gt;System Tools%26gt;Disk Clean Up

Now in disk clean up there is a list of objects that need to be checked off in order to be cleaned. So here is a list of files that can be deleted safely:

Put a check mark beside:

Temporary Internet Files

Offline Webpages

Microsoft Office Temporary Files

Microsoft Error Reporting Files

Temporary Files

Compress Old Files

Now just put a check mark on those files and your set and hit Yes for everything and don't touch anything else.

--------------------------------------...

Not Required, but if you want to, or are a gamer it is good to know how to disable your Processes. Since processes do take up resources.

Close your Background Processes if you want to by going Ctrl+Alt+Delete then click Processes.

Note: ONLY End Processes with your Username (the person who owns the comp) on it.

For Example.

Username:

Jess J

Since it has your User Name in it so end it.

Do Not Processes Named:

Taskmger.exe

Explorer.exe

And Do Not End User Name Processes:

SYSTEM

NETWORK

LOCAL

If you do end a process that doesn't have your user name on it just restart the comp everything will be ok.

--------------------------------------...

It could also be you need updates for IE, so go to Windows Update, for RAM updates, go to http://crucial.com, most others would also recommend this as well, as a good RAM Provider. Last but not least it could be your computer has Spyware or Adware or a Virus so get a free Virus Scanner like AVG, Kapersky, NOD 32. Spyware: Ad-Aware 2007.

Have A Nice Day

Ken.
Reply:Ok well a little trick for trying to get Guild Wars to run faster. Open up task manager CTRL, SHIFT, ESC. Go to processes and then you can close everything under username thats under your log in. If it doesn't have a user name or is system don't touch it. Also don't close explorer.exe. When you run Guild Wars dash it down open Task Manager again and go to processes right click it set priority to High. Hope that helps.

Reply:Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant,corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries.You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Moving files to new hard drive?

I recently bought the Seagate FreeAgent Desktop Drive. I have it installed and when the Drive Manager comes up, it only shows the Seagate F: drive. It doesn't show the original C: drive on my computer. I want to put a lot of games from the C: drive to the new F: drive to free up space on my original hard drive. How do I do this?

Basically, I bought the external hard drive because I have The Sims installed on my computer, and was losing a lot of GB. The game runs slow sometimes. Could that have anything to do with it, the fact that I was running out of space on my hard drive?

When running the game, sometimes my computer will say it's running low on memory, and is using virtual memory. Will having the new hard drive help this problem and free up my original hard drive and therefore free up more memory? Or should I get more stuff for my computer?

Do you have your C: drive set to master? and the new drive set to slave?
Reply:You have several issues:

1. The C: drive HAS to be working if you can boot UNLESS you (re)installed the operating system on the F drive. Keep looking.

2. Adding hard drive space will not "free up memory". There are 2 ways to "free up memory":

a) Buy more memory and install it.

b) Uninstall or delete some currently running programs that you are not using, especially those that gobble up resources (memory). Sometimes, I find printers still installed that have been discarded 2 years prior, for example. One thing that gobbles up memory is spyware/malware. Reinstalling your operating system will remove spyware/malware as well as software you are no longer using. (If you format the hard drive) Hope this helps.

How would i run a.764 rom on a wii? i already have the rom, just need to know what directory to put into?

ok, so, i dont feel like payin $10 for legend of zelda on the virtual console right? so i go out, buy an sd card, and download an emulator, project 64, and a rom, legend of zelda majora's mask. it ran FINE on my comp. now, i think that if i get it in the correct dirrectory on sd card, wii should recognize and play. so, could someone please copy one of their virtual console games to and sd card, and tell me what directory it's in

(eg: C\program files\microsoft)

in that format plz, but obviosly would be more liek this:

F(or whatever letter sd card is)\wii\ and thats all i no....so, to "win" u have to either: A) give me the directory, or B)give me a differant idea...that works

How would i run a.764 rom on a wii? i already have the rom, just need to know what directory to put into?
erm, I don't think that you can do that. Sorry, at least not without modding your wii. Which I wouldn't do. Anyway, sorry.

oh sorry, well I don't know how to do that. (@ edited information

0.25g zinc & 10mL 6M HCl react. How many moles zinc reacted & how many moles H was produced.?

This is from a virtual lab. When 10 mL 6M HCl solution was added to 0.25g zinc in a flask, psi went from 14.697 to 26.610 and temp went from 21 C up to 34.85 C. After cooling to 21 C, psi = 25.413. After connecting flask to a piston, Gas vol = 102.14 mL, O2 mol = 0.000524, N2 mol = 0.002096.

0.25g zinc %26amp; 10mL 6M HCl react. How many moles zinc reacted %26amp; how many moles H was produced.?
The balanced equation is:

Zn (s) + 2 HCl (aq) --%26gt; ZnCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)

0.25 g / 65.41 g/mol = number of moles of Zn available

= 0.00382 moles

10 mL / (1000 mL/L) * 6 mole/L = number of moles of HCL available

= 0.06 moles

There is enough acid to react with all of the Zinc. Every mole of Zinc will produce one mole of Hydrogen gas, so 0.00382 moles of Hydrogen is produced.

At STP, this would produce 22.4 L/mole * 0.00382 moles = 0.0856 L of Hydrogen gas (or 85.6 mL). You can translate this using

P1V1 = P2V2 into alother Temperature and Pressure to determine error.

Computer blue screen (beginning physical dump)?

After about a hour or two of Youtube-watching or websurfing, i get a blue screen thats says beginning dup of physical memory

at 1st i thought it was the games i was playin so i lowered virtual memory and uninstalled some stuff but it keeps ocurring

is it b/c the videos i stream on the web

and how to i lower internet cache - if that helps the problem

any tips would help

thanks in advance

Computer blue screen (beginning physical dump)?
The question would be: do you receive this BSOD any other time? Are all video streams (not just from YouTube, although YouTube streaming may be filling up available buffers, thus causing the dump) causing this crash %26amp; dump? If so, you may have an outdated video driver - go to your video adapter's manufacturer website and download the latest video driver for that adapter model. Also, a previous poster mentioned RAM as being suspect. If you have bad RAM, you'll see it manifested in other system crashes during certain program operations (not always at the same time, but possibly when the program is trying to write to a certain address in memory). It does sound like virtual memory is set too low. I would suggest you upgrade to at least 1 GB of physical RAM and set your pagefile to 1-1.5 times that amount. Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space and that your temp folder is emptied out (usually either in C:\Windows\Temp or C:\Document and Settings\%26lt;username%26gt;\Local Settings\Temp).
Reply:Do you have antivirus software installed on your computer? We had that happen to us before - the blue screen of death and we found out that there was a backdoor virus in our computer. We had to get a better software antivirus program to get rid of it...
Reply:If you're on XP, it probably means a hardware problem, or a driver problem. Look at the names of any files on the screen - and then search for them to see what they are. For example, (not saying this is the case) you may find one is part of the video card drivers - which may mean drivers are bad and you need an update (nvidia.com or ati.com depending on brand), or the card itself is broken. It could also, for example, be bad RAM, motherboard, CPU... most any part failing will cause blue screens. You can write down the crazy hex code (the thing that looks like 0x800000E...) and search online for the first section of it - those numbers actually do mean an error message, you just have to look it up.
Reply:Its your RAM. Everytime you run something it gets loaded into RAM first. Even after it stops some remnant of code stays stuck in.there. Your machine is trying to dump that data because it has nowhere else to run the programs from. Also, could be a good indication of your RAM going bad. I had to replace RAM lots of times on peoples machines because the RAM became corrupted and fried.

Help with Sonnet?

this is a sonnet I wrote about my x-box. I need to know which are the stresses and which are the unstressed syllables.

My one polite delight that one must see

(Polite-not what one might expect of it)

Lies deep within realms of reality

Another word for “real” virtual bit

Smoke disperse was quite the original

Avenging Rangers-No more of C-Train

No one under ten was decisional

Invisible glitch-life in the fast lane

From Call of Duty Four to Gears of War

To “ Yes I like to pwn you every day”

The Clan-Avenging Rangers is no more

And pillar battles will always decay

So substitute the word “polite” for “true”

Oh Xbox Three Sixty, I do love you!

*any suggestions for how to make this better would also help. Not in terms of content, but in terms of fixing the whole syllables thing.

Help with Sonnet?
Your sonnet as it stands does not have a regular rhythm so it is impossible to scan every line poetically.

My one/ de light/ that one/ must see/

This first line is good as the stress is on the first sound,

Say it aloud stressing the first sound and you will hear that it flows.

As does this one.

Lies deep/ with in / the realms'/ re al/ it y/ .

I made a slight change to fit it into the rhythm.

However, when you come to the fourth line, it cannot be forced into the same pattern. Try looking up; "scanning:"and "rhythm" in Wikipedia.

Congratulations on your try. keep up your reading of all kind of poetry.

A game in pogo says my memory is to small to play the game.?

i tried to change my virtual memory to 300000 but it says i dont have enough drive space in c to do that what do i do?

A game in pogo says my memory is to small to play the game.?
It sounds to me like you have too many superfluous files in your C drive. You need to go through some of your files and either burn them onto a disc if you want to keep them or simply delete some stuff.
Reply:By the sound of it, you just don't have the hard drive space to store the game, you might have a bucnh of useless files on your computer, such as old internet history, clear it up. Also you might consider unistalling games and programs that you don't use anymore. Also if your computer is really old, it might be time for an upgrade since your old of room on your current PC.

Plz any one tell me the following (true/false) thanks?

a) Too many getters setters in a class interface, is usually an indication of bad OOp design.

b) Having too many virtual functions in a class interface, is usually an indication of bad OOp design.

c) A good design should always promote high cohesion and less coupling.

d) Too many associations, is usually an indication of bad OOp design.

e) A good design is open for modification and close for extension.

Plz any one tell me the following (true/false) thanks?
Here are a couple of more:

f) All of the above can be debated endlessly and only a dopey teacher would turn them into true/false questions: TRUE

g) students should do their own homework: TRUE

Homeschooling?

A: How do I sign up for virtual charter school?

B: The names of websites I can visit to learn more.

C: Do you know of any in virginia?

Homeschooling?
A - you first have to find out if one is available where you live. Search for "Virginia virtual charter schools" on the 'net. Then read on their site, or call, to find out their application/registration procedure.

B - As two others have said, K12 is a great VCS program.

C - There ARE K12 VCS's in Virginia. See this link:

http://www.k12.com/curriculum_and_produc...

EDIT TO ADD from a previous responder:

%26lt;%26lt; "Sadly Virgina doesn't have a free one like AZ however they do have some other options... Here is a link to those options: http://k12.com/curriculum_and_products/p... %26gt;%26gt;

This is the same link I gave. It shows VA DOES HAVE VCS's using K12 in VA. They will be free also. It's just that they're not VCS's ran by/managed by K12. Rather, it's a school district running the school using K12's curriculum, not NOT school management services.
Reply:A. You go to their website and they should have a place

B. www.k12.com

C.www.k12.com/curriculum_and_products/...
Reply:go to K12 IT'S THE BEST website to learn
Reply:could you please be more specific
Reply:Hey Tiffany,

Glad to see your interested in online virtual charter schools. I attend the K12 school in Arizona (AZVA) I am on our Student Council; I am the Treasurer. K12 is a international curriclum provider. In some states the state hosts the school and it is a free public school. While in others you would need to pay for the school yourself.

Sadly Virgina doesn't have a free one like AZ however they do have some other options... Here is a link to those options: http://k12.com/curriculum_and_products/p...

The other thing you could do is the International Academy/Consumer Direct and pay for it...

However K12 is an AWESOME program and I stand behind it all the way! Let me know if you have any other questions...

Anyways I hope this helps!

I carnt get it to work, ?????

Can i use ASP in a URL?
You cannot use include a dynamic include inside a %26lt;!--#include

The reason that in Active Server Pages the include directives are resolved before the server-side script portions are processed. so The above code listing will trigger a nasty error telling you that the include file cannot be found.

But the below is a workaround

In order to get around this problem, the Microsoft FileSystemObject Object can be used to load and pass the content of the desired include file into a string variable which can be inserted into the page that is being sent to the client. The following function, "getFileContents", aids in this process by loading a file that is passed to the function as an input parameter and returning its contents as a string.

%26lt;%

'Pass the name of the file to the function.

Function getFileContents(strIncludeFile)

Dim objFSO

Dim objText

Dim strPage

'Instantiate the FileSystemObject Object.

Set objFSO = Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSyste...

'Open the file and pass it to a TextStream Object (objText). The

'"MapPath" function of the Server Object is used to get the

'physical path for the file.

Set objText = objFSO.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath(strIn...

'Read and return the contents of the file as a string.

getFileContents = objText.ReadAll

objText.Close

Set objText = Nothing

Set objFSO = Nothing

End Function

%%26gt;

Using this function "dynamic include" files can be achieved. First, the main page (a template file containing the page layout and any static content) would be loaded and passed to a string variable. Then, the contents of the include file would be loaded and passed to a string variable. Finally, the variable containing the contents of the include file would be inserted into the contents of the variable containing the main page.

Example: Dynamic Include Files

First, lets take a look at the "template" file. In this listing, there is an HTML comment, "%26lt;!-- INCLUDE FILE HERE --%26gt;". We will replace this HTML comment with the content of the include file.

%26lt;html%26gt;

%26lt;body%26gt;

%26lt;h2%26gt;Welcome to my web page!%26lt;/h2%26gt;

%26lt;table width="500" border="1"%26gt;

%26lt;tr%26gt;

%26lt;td%26gt;

%26lt;!-- INCLUDE FILE HERE --%26gt;

%26lt;/td%26gt;

%26lt;/tr%26gt;

%26lt;/table%26gt;

%26lt;/body%26gt;

%26lt;/html%26gt;

Now, lets look at the include files that will be used for this example. The first include file is the default include file. The default include file is a form that allows the client to choose which of three include files to load. Notice that the "action" attribute of the form is omitted. This is because when the form will be submitting to itself (causing "dynamicinc3.asp" to reload).

%26lt;!-- BEGIN DEFAULT INCLUDE --%26gt;

%26lt;form method="post"%26gt;

%26lt;h3%26gt;Select the name of the file you wish to load%26lt;/h3%26gt;

%26lt;p%26gt;

%26lt;select id=cboFile name=cboFile%26gt;

%26lt;option value="includefile1.inc"%26gt;File #1%26lt;/option%26gt;

%26lt;option value="includefile2.inc"%26gt;File #2%26lt;/option%26gt;

%26lt;option value="includefile3.inc"%26gt;File #3%26lt;/option%26gt;

%26lt;/select%26gt;

%26lt;input type="submit" value="Submit"%26gt;

%26lt;/p%26gt;

%26lt;/form%26gt;

%26lt;!-- END DEFAULT INCLUDE --%26gt;

For the sake of this example, the content of the other three include files has been kept very simple.

%26lt;!-- BEGIN INCLUDE FILE #1 --%26gt;

%26lt;h2 style="color:red"%26gt;FILE #1 CONTENTS%26lt;/h2%26gt;

%26lt;br%26gt;

%26lt;a href="dynamicinc3.asp"%26gt;Return to default page%26lt;/a%26gt;

%26lt;!-- END INCLUDE FILE #1 --%26gt;

%26lt;!-- BEGIN INCLUDE FILE #2 --%26gt;

%26lt;h2 style="color:green"%26gt;FILE #2 CONTENTS%26lt;/h2%26gt;

%26lt;br%26gt;

%26lt;a href="dynamicinc3.asp"%26gt;Return to default page%26lt;/a%26gt;

%26lt;!-- END INCLUDE FILE #2 --%26gt;

%26lt;!-- BEGIN INCLUDE FILE #3 --%26gt;

%26lt;h2 style="color:blue"%26gt;FILE #3 CONTENTS%26lt;/h2%26gt;

%26lt;br%26gt;

%26lt;a href="dynamicinc3.asp"%26gt;Return to default page%26lt;/a%26gt;

%26lt;!-- END INCLUDE FILE #3 --%26gt;

Finally, consider the ASP file that makes the whole example run, "dynamicinc3.asp".

%26lt;%

'-------------------------------------...

'The "getFileContents" function should be included at the top

'of the ASP file.

'-------------------------------------...

'Declare variables to hold the content of the main page and

'the include file.

Dim strMain, strInclude

'Get the contents of the main page and pass them to the "strMain"

'variable.

strMain = getFileContents("maintemplate.inc")

'Test to see if the "cboFile" select box is being submitted. If so,

'load the requested include file. If not, load the default include.

If Request.form("cboFile") = "" Then

strInclude = getFileContents("includedefault.inc")

Else

strInclude = getFileContents(Request.form("cboFile"))

End If

'After the proper include file contents are loaded ("strInclude"),

'then insert it into the main page ("strMain") using the "Replace"

'function.

strMain = replace(strMain,"%26lt;!-- INCLUDE FILE HERE --%26gt;",strInclude)

'Use the "Response" Object to "Write" the completed page to the client.

Response.Write strMain

%%26gt;

This sample works, and, in effect, creates the ability to use dynamic include files because it does not use the include directive. Instead this example uses the FileSystemObject Object.
