Go into the control panel

click on the system icon

go to the hardware tab

open the device manager

look for the dvd/cd-rom drive section

click on the little + in front of the section

should expand and show any installed cd drives

right click on the cd drive and uninstall it

reboot

it should detect and reinstall the drive
Reply:hi, there might be a conflict on the software and your hardware. try to check the bios. if the hardware is detected in there. theres really no prob in your hardware. try to uninstall the software you intalled. then check if your cd will work.
Reply:you didn't say what windows program you are using. The easiest solution is to remove the driver in the control panel for the CD reboot machine and when it boots up it will find the new hardware and install the driver for it. If it is special software dedicated for your specific CD R/W you will need your manufacturers disc to install the drivers. Another route, you might just try to reinstall the driver by using add hardware program in the control panel to reinstall the CD.
Reply:If your computer hangs or reboots while you are working on it , it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yk5zpr
Reply:well just try restarting your computer and if nothing happens try opening you CPU and plugin the cable tightly
Reply:check the IDE cable
