Computer ‘A’ has an IP address of 169.254.45.21, what does this mean?
That's the address Windows assigns when it isn't assigned an IP address and doesn't receive one via DHCP. So I would think the best answer is b.

CCNA exam or something?
Reply:The answer is B and D. The address you gave is a default address that all NIC (network interface card) cards are given when another IP is not available.

A couple things can cause this:

The router it is connected to is not connected to the outside network.

The router it is connected to is not set to DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

In any case, take a look at your residential gateway (router or network PC) to make sure it is assigning an IP as it's supposed to. After that, make sure you NIC card is accepting IPs by default.

Commands like:

ipconfig /release

and

ipconfig /renew

in your command prompt (start%26gt;run%26gt;type: "cmd" and hit enter) will have your network connections rest the IPs.

Reply:a
Reply:D

That is an APIPA address..... Automatic Private IP Addressing. - it's basically an autoconfigured IP if your DHCP server doesn't assign you one. If there are other machines on the same segment that have also been APIPA addressed...you would be able to communicate with them, but not routable on the internet.
Reply:The answer is only B.
Reply:The answer of "A" is incorrect. It is both a sign of (B) and (D) check your DHCP server (router/modem) they probably just need a power cycle unplug for 30 seconds plug back in.
