Why Does DOS not work in my Windows XP OS based PC system?

I have Windows Xp in my PC. When I try to start DOS it shows "C:\Windows\system32\command.com

c:\progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." Thus, what are the ways to overcome from this problems? Thank you.

Try using cmd, instead of command.com. cmd is the Windows XP version, and it's somewhat better.

Hope that helps.
Reply:Try disabling Norton because apparently something is conflicting with it.
Reply:dude, why even use DOS?

no one uses DOS any more, havent since Windows 98.

well, anyway,i saw "Symantec" in that command line.

so, i would remove the Symantec and reinstall, that might work.
Reply:XP doesn't use a "true" version of DOS. It's actually a program the executes Dos commands. Sounds like the program is corrupt.
Reply:This is a symantec (Norton) problem Contact them, or dump Norton and get decent virus software which does not stop your system.
