Reply:Neither

Compressing drive makes accessing files take longer (but frees up space)

Indexing will make the problem worse because the computer will seem like it is constantly accessing the drive to index your files. This is only helpful if you are looking for files all the time. Better to store files where you know they are.

Best is to delete (make sure you empty your wastebasket) old files that you do not need.

Then add memory to your system.
Reply:dude, chilaks, it means that your computer is running too many heavy processes at the time example spyware, antivirus and itunes at the same time, it'll fix itself, it's just a message to let you know

it also means consider getting a RAM upgrade, nothing else
Reply:First you should know what is virtual memory. Virtual memory is like RAM but it runs on HDD when your RAM is full. So to speak that when your RAM is full (because you CPU usage is high) the computer will allocate a small space in you Hard Drive to become RAM. That means, you have to allow at least 2GB in your HDD for your Virtual Memory to be sufficient. Deleting unnecessary files would fix this but if you cannot for some reason, compressing you HDD is another option. If you have some money left in you wallet, its better to upgrade your RAM and your HDD to store more files.
