the free space in my c drive also decrease bit by bit. help...
There's always a window bubble message saying that virtual memory too low. Is it a virus or worms?
Virtual Memory is space allocated on your hard drive for those times that your physical memory (RAM) is not enough.
To increase the amount of virtual memory go to Control Panel %26gt; System %26gt; Advanced %26gt; Performance %26gt; Settings %26gt; Advanced %26gt; Virtual Memory "Change" %26gt; Custom Size %26gt; adjust as needed. 1.5 times your physical RAM is a good minimum and 3 times your physical memory in MB is good for your maximum.
Reply:1. Setup more virtual memory here
Right click my computer%26gt; properties %26gt; Advanced%26gt; Performance %26gt; Advanced.
If you're running out of space in C:, Set it for D:
A typical XP machine needs about 1GB.
2. Check memory usage
Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and click Task Manager%26gt;Processes
Click Mem Usage and check which application is using up memory. It could be a virus if it's an application you don't recognize. Search such suspicios programs on Google or Yahoo and check.
3. Remove unneeded applications from running.
Check your Start %26gt; All programs %26gt; Startup and
Start %26gt; All Programs %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools %26gt; System Information %26gt; Software Environment %26gt; Startup Programs
Check the Location and if needed remove using regedit (Start %26gt; Run and type regedit and go the location listed in System Information too and delete entries.
Reply:no its not a virus you are low on RAM (random access memory) and when you have use it all up it uses virtual memory form you r hard drive programs use it to store memory temporarily
i recommend you buying a new RAM with 1 or 2 GB
Reply:it could be that you just have too many programs running in the background. this happens a lot with internet use because some sites like to attach to your computer to make it easier next time you access their site. try a disk clean up. also look into your program files for any programs you don't recognize. a spyware program like spybot or adaware could also help.
Reply:Its neither.
Virtual memory is fake memory from your harddrive rather then your RAM. Disk space is taken up from your harddrive to be used for RAM. This happens when your computer has used up its Physical RAM.
I recommend you go out and buy yourself new/more RAM.
Either that, or check what on Earth could be taking up all the RAM.
Reply:your ram is too low, you need to add more ram (memory) to your pc
Reply:Whe your RAM no longer suffice for the operation of the computer, it stores data momentarily in your harddisk, which is called virtual memory.
You can try disk clean up, but be careful, overclean your disk can cause trouble too.
A solution is to increase the capacity of your RAM.
